CASE STUDY

Oak Staircase

The Challenge:

Ryan had been renovating his family's farm cottage and was nearing completion when he contacted us regarding the build and installation of a new oak staircase.

The staircase is central in the cottage, in the middle of the lounge/diner and so, Ryan wanted to make them an attractive feature.

To enable the renovation to be completed, a temporary staircase was in place and this included a half-height landing that he was keen to keep and to ensure the staircase was in-keeping with the new kitchen and farm cottage aesthetic, Ryan knew he wanted the staircase to be oak. It was time for us to come up with the design!

The Solution:

We incorporated the half-height landing and open treads with oak trim and solid oak balustrades in our design.  We sourced the oak from a local supplier and pre-fabricated the majority of the elements in our workshop. All aspects of the staircase including oak strings, treads, hand rails and balustrades were manufactured direct from the raw oak, resulting in a very solid (heavy!) staircase to transport to site.

During the renovation, the temporary staircase had been plastered around and so, care was taken when removing to avoid damage. We then proceeded to install our new oak staircase and handrail and it quickly looked as if it had always been there.  Ryan was pleased with the end result which was both strong and stylish.
